In Geneva we’d been told all sorts of horror stories about London’s Heathrow Airport recently having been turned into a nightmare of delays, huge lines and other horridness you’d normally expect from some backward banana republic, not the UK. Strange, we thought - just last week I was in England and all was OK at its main airport. Now? There’s just one word to describe it: chaos. Fly to France, folks. Or to Geneva.

Yeah it is always chaotic on holiday weekends in Heathrow. May 4th-6th in UK was a Bank Holiday weekend. Heathrow queues are often on the news during these weekends and it is a PR disaster. Unfortunately it doesn't get much better transport wise anywhere else on these weekends as services and staff levels are reduced because they don't want to pay staff extra for working them.

Also, there have been strikes at airports by baggage handlers and ground staff over holiday weekends before now.
