To my understanding a 2010 key will activate 2011 right? if i buy 2011 when it comes out, will it be the same price as 2010 right now?

Yes a 2010 key will works fine in a 2011, if You have a valid 2010 key You don't need to buy a 2011 one. Probably the price of 2011 will be the same as 2010, I don't think KLabs will change the price for now.
