hi..
i really2 need help here.

few days ago i was helping fixing my friend's PC..
the problem's really odd to me..

the PC has KAV2009 8.0.0.506, n has no internet connection.. (he has a legit license key for his KAV2009)
i can't manual update his PC, which the update source were copied from my PC (i copied the update distribution folder of my PC, n i'm using KIS2009 8.0.0.506).

i'd tested it (the same way i did on my friend's PC) into another laptop (another friend), n succeeded..

unfortunately, i didn't printscreen it, or save the failure log (on my friend's PC).
but, i remember, the error happened right after the update processing AutoPatches (kav8exec-0607g.xml).

i tried to uninstall + clean the registry, n reinstall KAV again..
but still, it can't update.
as i told above, the PC has no internet connection, so i don't have chance to test it with online update.

so, i thought, maybe the windows itself has to reinstalled.
but, the error still happened..
i still can't manual update his PC.
and then, i suspect, there's a new virus in his hdd.
i asked my friend to save all his data into dvds, so i can reformat the hdd.

the next day, he formatted it (cause i can't help him that day).
but he said, the partition can't be a single hdd (there're small partitions above n below "the single" partition, which can't be deleted)
it assures me, the PC infected with a boot sector virus..

n the only way i can think of is by remove it with hiren's boot cd, n i was using super fdisk.
then, the hdd has single partition again..

but..
he reinstalled windows n kav2009 again,
n again, it failed to manual update..

so, last hope i know, i have to low-level format the hdd..
i asked him to brought his hdd to my house, so i can low level format it (i got the software from hddguru).
n he went home again..

reinstalling windows n kav2009 again..
but, still failed to manual update it..

n FYI: he knows exactly how to manual update it, cause he always do that everytime (he got the update distribution from me).

so, what's wrong his PC?
i know, there was a virus in it..
but i already clear MBR, and even low level format it..

pls help me here..
thx..

Try with this tool:

http://support.kaspersky.com/updater?level=2

Extract the updater utility, the GUI and the VCRT8 library to the same folder, call the GUI utility, select the KIS/KAV versión and download the basses, after that, copy all folders structure generated to an USB Pendrive for example and setup the offline KIS/KAV to update from the folder structure in the Pendrive.

Regards.

i have downloaded it..
but, i have to test it again in my friend's PC..

but, CMIIW, i think this method only to save the modules n updates into separate (specific) folder..

i told u, my simply method, succeeded in my friend's laptop.
the same source folder...
the same method..

why ur suggestion here differs than what i did?

thx..

EDIT:
i read it again n again, the link u gave..
n it has no different with mine.
cause i can update my friend's laptop with the same source..
so the problem is not the source..

pls, have any other idea about it?

You say you did a low-level format. I would try wiping the HDD first. I see HDDguru has a wipe tool available, but I've always used
DBAN

Also you may want to reset the cmos, pull the battery and reset the cmos jumper if the mobo has one.
Check your manual for methodolgy.
Then use the wipe utility(DBAN). Then start with a fresh install, format it with NTFS format off the Windows install CD, not the fast way either.
Everything should be clean, if your source material is clean.

Just curious, if you did a wipe/format and then load a new O/S and the only thing that worked was to use another scanner,
what was it that the "rival" picked up?

Personally if you have this trouble with a freshly loaded O/S,
I would be a little concerned that you have cleaned up what ever it was.

i hope i get what u asked..

i try to explain it thoroughly, since the first time i attempted to fix it..
the problem on my friend's machine was a virus. i knew that, when i want to clear the MBR with SuperFDisk (bootable from hiren's bootcd 9.7).
i thought whenever i clear the MBR, the virus would be gone.. (btw, i realized that time, this is a boot sector virus, and a new variant; since clamav (i tried scan it with clamAV) didn't detect it)
but, still, KAV cannot manual update..

so, i decided to low level format the hdd.. coz i thought, wiping out it (again, with hiren's cd) would took longer time..
but again, it's still cannot manual update..
at that time, i post the question here (this thread).
i really2 dunno what else i should do..

suddenly, crossed in my mind: "maybe the virus still exist in this hdd..".
coz u said, why i didn't wipe the hdd..

i tried that "wiping" tools years ago on y own hdd..
it really took all day to finish it..

so, i have to test something else..
something i hate to do..
comparing kaspersky with rival..

i read in so many forum, both users claiming each brand better than the other..
at that time, i don't have time to prove it..
so, i tested it with my friend's machine..
install "the rival", tweak "the scanning-setting" to scan deeper n thoroughly. (sorry, i forget the details..)
i found a boot sector virus (sorry, i didn't write down the variant..), like i thought before..
after all scanning progress complete, uninstall "the rival", n put KAV2009 again n finally i can update it manually from a folder.

the main reason kaspersky lost in this battle: "rival" always update the version regularly, while we're stuck on version 8.0.0.506, which have been releasing since November 2008..
i hope in the future, this problem can be solved without scan it with "rival"'s antivirus..
sorry for my bad english, norwegian..
