Latest Windows media...I dont like winamp, it annoys me.
When I try to work winamp, it works fine for like a month, but then it crashes, gives errors etc, and nothing can solve.

/me uses Winamp v2.95. It does what it is supposed to do and as far as I remember had some feature(s) which are not included in newer versions.

Interesting that I also use the save version. After I read Steve Bass article on PC World : Old Software--and Why I Hate Upgrading

I'm going thru a bit of a faze right now with music players. Lot's are exploitable presently, and with codecs and the issues surrounding malware/exploits etc
I'm running out of players that aren't functionable to my needs as well as being safe.

There's this XP update released only a few days ago - Security Update for Windows XP (KB941569)

Brief Description
A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to remotely compromise your Windows-based system using Windows Media file formats and gain control over it.

Then there is the latest VLC exploit - http://secunia.com/advisories/30601/

Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in VLC Media Player, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

Hopefully somewhere out there is a safe, secure player for my multi media that is both fuctionable and not overloaded on the DRM front (I don't use torrents/Limewire etc for obtaining copy righted material, just don't like DRM).

I use VLC as default and winamp and WMP beside it for extra features.
I love the simplicity of VLC that which I've never seen on any other player.

WMP for almost everything : When I listen to music I like the ability to put it in the taskbar as a little "remote", my Sony player uses it to transfer music, and it's OK when it comes to DVD.

I use VLC too, mainly with videos that need external subtitle files.

video: VLC and MPC (Media Player Classic) is good, anything else is not required.

I use iTunes and SRS Ausio Sanbdbox to boost sound.
It's my favorite media player since it's very easy to find songs and organize your music and video library.
